Während den ersten zwei Jahre des Projekts wurden sog. Pilotprojekte durchgeführt, um neue Dienstleistungen zur Nutzung der komplementären Ausrüstung und Expertise in den zusammenarbeitenden Institutionen zu entwickeln. Diese neuen Dienstleistungen werden Interessenten seit September 2018 im Rahmen eines ‚Open Access‘-Angebotes zur Verfügung gestellt. Das Angebot ermöglicht es den Kunden, die neuen Dienstleistungen kennenzulernen und in ihren Forschungsprojekten auszuprobieren.
In der fünften Berichtsperiode wurden insgesamt 10 Open Access-Projekte bewilligt:

- Screening for telomeric phenotype proving the candidate gene function in planta (Core Facilities Plant Sciences/CEITEC-MU)
- Role of miR-1 in the establishment of muscle-cell ultrastructure (Core facility Electron Microscopy/VBCF)
